[Current Music |"Oompa loompa doobity do.."]

As I've mentioned before, I'm a total Yuletide newbie. I've seen people on my flist alternately rave and panic about it over the past 2-3 years, intriguing me enough that this year, I decided to give it a try. I've been nervous and dubious, but now that things are really gearing up, I'm finding myself getting caught up in the excitement.

I ended up writing another story for Yuletide Madness because I saw a prompt on the pinch hitters list that ate my freakin' brain, and I'm giving serious consideration to writing one or two others that caught my eye on the Unclaimed list, if I finish my current knitting project in time to squeeze in a little writing time.

I never expected to write more than just my one assigned story, but here I am, getting caught up in the Madness - and it's fun! I can see why people get so excited every year and get caught up in the Yuletide experience, because it's been a blast for me so far, and it's amazingly well run and smooth-going for such an enormous fest.

I'll definitely be back for Yuletide next year!

Story: The Dibley History Project, for nehalenia [Dec. 22nd, 2009|05:55 pm]

Title: The Dibley History Project, for nehalenia

From: Your Secret Snupin Santa

Summary: Geraldine Granger-Kennedy is happy, and she wants her parishioners to be happy. So she decides to act as matchmaker for the parish council's newest member and its surliest – Remus Lupin and Stephen Snape

Rated: Gingerbread & Cocoa (PG)

Notes: Much love to my beta for reassuring me that some people might find this amusing. Many thanks to for this prompt – not only was it fun to write, but it gave me a really good reason to go out and buy The Vicar of Dibley box set. It is AU in that Severus and Remus both survived (and Tonks was madly in love with Charlie). It is set in the year following the final VoD episode, and may mess up their canon dates somewhat, but since they pay no attention to canon I saw no reason why I should have to.

Disclaimer: This is a work of fanfiction set in the Harry Potter and The Vicar of Dibley universes – all recognisable characters and settings from Harry Potter are the property of J. K. Rowling and her associates. All recognisable characters and settings from The Vicar of Dibley are the property of Richard Curtis and his associates. No copyright infringement is intended. No profit is made from this work.

Warnings/Kinks: Vicar of Dibley in jokes, annoying villagers, and it's probably not as funny as I was hoping it would be.

Yuletide and such [Dec. 22nd, 2009|10:43 am]

[Current Mood | okay]

For those participating in Yuletide who might not have heard, there's a serious problem with Yahoo that's preventing the mod from sending out email for pinch hits.

Thanks to those who responded to my post of woe from last week; the kind words and thoughts were appreciated. :) I spent the last week baking in preparation for a family gathering that occurred this past Sunday, and I knitted a hat and a pair of thick house socks, and I wrapped most of my presents. A couple aren't finished yet, and I need to pick up some things either today or tomorrow.

I also finished and uploaded my Yuletide story, which is nerve-wracking because I've never done Yuletide before and I haven't written anything out of HP in 2-3 years, but hopefully my recipient will like it. I wasn't going to participate in Yuletide Madness, but I saw a couple of things on the pinch hitter list before Yahoo shut it down that are tempting me. I don't want to commit to do a pinch hit, but if I have the time and energy, I may write something short for Yuletide Madness.

Yesterday, I uploaded some late gifts to the Snupin Santa site, so I'm caught up with that. Today is laundry day, and it may turn into errand day this afternoon. Other than a few last-minute gift buying-finishing-wrapping things, I'm ready for the holidays. I think I've finally reached the point where I can sit back, take a deep breath, and relax. I may even venture into looking at the various fest posts again and see what I want to put into my "to read" folder.

Title: The Cat's Paw, for ghot

From: Your Secret Snupin Santa

Summary: Remus learns his pet is even more special than he imagined.

Rated: Coal and Switches (NC17)

Notes: Based on the following prompt: "Snape is an animagus and he survived Nagini's bite transforming into a cat. The problem is that the blood loss and/or leaked memories when he was so wounded complicated the transformation and now Snape's mind is locked away somewhere inside a cat's simpler mind. Cat!Snape starts living at Hogwarts and is taken care of by Teddy and his daddy Remus (who also survived somehow). He slowly starts to recover his mind. Cat!Snape socializing with other animals as well as he did with people, no previous Snupin relationship and no Tonks, please!"

Happy Tuesday! [Dec. 22nd, 2009|09:24 am]

[Current Mood | cheerful]

Things that are making me happy this week:

1. As much as I enjoy giving and receiving at fests, you know what I also love? Seeing a gift go up that is all, "A gift for ____!" wherein "____" is the name of someone you totally fangirl but haven't seen around for awhile and had no idea was in the fest, and then you squeal like a little girl and frantically go through every entry at the fest trying to find their contribution in order to flap your hands over it. AND THEN FIND IT! I love that.

2. Beta'ing a Yuletide story that made me go all *happy sigh* over super minor fandom that possibly only the author, recipient, and me are interested in. :)

3. Making huge progress and being excited about Writing Project that has been stalled and guilt-making for a loooong time. Woo!

4. [info]marguerite_26. But that's every week, really.

5. Advent drabbles/ficlets many of you are doing. Short bursts of multi-pairing fic! I love opening my flist in the morning in December and inhaling little!fic. I'm trying my hardest to always comment, but even if you don't see me, I am probably totally reading and flailing over your advent drabbles.

6. Recc'ers (and I don't mean, like, me, but rather, YOU). Authors and artists and readers/viewers/commenters are AWESOME, and so are this fest season's recc'ers. I appreciate it so much when someone takes the time to point at stuff I might like. *flappy hands*

Things that are making me sad this week:

1. My f***ing website. Can anyone with any expertise on these matters tell me what the hell is wrong with it? I don't think it's been working for months. Some good folks have pointed this out to me recently, but I figured it was just down for a few hours and thus didn't really try to do anything about it. But no, it seems to be down forever. For no reason. And slashcity just sent me the bill for 2010. Is this worth paying for? I notice from poking around at other people's sites who use slashcity that this is maybe just me. I cannot possibly be over bandwidth, I don't think, but then, I don't really know what bandwidth is or how it works. :/ And I can't even get into my admin console thing to check stats and maybe see what's wrong. Fail. I mean, all my fic is on LJ/IJ anyway, so maybe I can let the site lapse? I kind of liked having it all off LJ/IJ, too, though. Wah. HALP.

All right, off to do some more shopping. :D

Budget [Dec. 21st, 2009|08:52 am]

[Current Mood |amused and annoyed]
[Current Music |silence with garbage collection trucks outside]

So, Merrie and I are discussing budget. (Because I'm not letting her go out with her friends today - I'd said yes yesterday, then read her homework email from school and she still has the fucking F in math. I'm tempted to just say 'screw it, kid' and not punish her, but I don't think she'll learn the right thing from that.)

ANYWAY, budget. She's assuming she'll rent a room in a house. We checked a day's worth of SFBay Area Shared Housing page on Craigslist and I made her move her 'estimate' up from $400 "because there are some that are that much!" I'm assuming about 3 people total in the multiperson house, so the Utilities are roughly divided by 3 for my total outgo. (Except for water, where I'm totally pulling a number out of my hat. I have no idea how much water bills are, but I want to have her thinking of them.)

Rent: 700/mo
Transportation: 80/mo

Utilities:
Internet/TV: 120/people/mo
Electric: 90/people/mo
Gas: 30/people/mo
Garbage: 10/mo
Water: 30/mo

Food: 400/mo
Laundry: 20/mo
Phone: 60/mo

What are we missing here? (Besides income. She says she can get a part time job making the $8/hour min wage, which, after tax, brings her about $960/mo, plus she gets $500/mo from my mother's pension.)

So, what bills are missing?

Income: $1460

Outgo: $1295

She's on Verizon's site right now trying to see how much it would cost to get her own phone. (Don't ask me why she's not looking at, say, Metro PCS or TMobile. I asked, she said Verizon is what she thought of. Really it's that we're on Verizon and she wants unlimited texting ... and that she's never been good at thinking outside the box she's currently in.)

*sigh*

Title: For One More Chance, for arionrhod

From: Your Secret Snupin Santa

Summary: He didn't tell anyone where he was going that day, nor did he tell them what he was planning to summon. At best, they'd have called him mad; at worse they'd have locked him up for dabbling in such ancient, restricted arts. Not that he really cared. Remus was on a mission, and he'd do anything to get to Severus. Even risk his soul in a seemingly impossible wager with Death.

Rated: Holiday Spice (R)

Notes: Warnings: None, really... Sexual situations, some language Prompts: I combined two, with some slight modifications:
1. Fic - Remus survives because only silver can truly kill a werewolf, although regeneration takes several days. When he comes "back to life" he finds out Tonks and Severus are both dead, and that Severus wasn't a traitor after all. Having only married Tonks because he was grieving over Albus and Severus, whom he had loved secretly for years, Remus makes a daring decision - to use a Dark Magic he'd heard about during his years of wandering to pass into the afterlife and bring Severus back. The only problem is that he has a mere twenty four hours to convince Severus to return, or else they will both be trapped in limbo forever! Angst fine, but happy ending a must!
2. Fic - Remus has no memory of who or what he is; finding himself wandering alone in a cold, dark place, he stumbles upon a small house where a man lives alone. The stranger takes him in, albeit reluctantly, and as Remus is nursed back to health he finds that he develops feelings for his rescuer. Little does he know that this is no stranger, but Severus Snape, a man scorned and hated for his crimes. The amount they may have known each other before is up to the author, but I'd like to see a reluctant, possibly damaged Severus being slowly won over by Remus. Whether Remus regains his memories is up to you, but a happy ending, please!

Old RPG round-up [Dec. 19th, 2009|09:44 pm]

innerslytherin
[Tags|, , , , , , ]
[Current Mood | cold]

I'm cleaning up my links list and want to take my old RPGs off there, so I'm putting the links to them here for my future reference:

[info]farfromgracerpg - I played Peter Pettigrew and Evangelos Rosier in Far From Grace. I applied for Peter on a whim, because I was tired of seeing Marauder-era games where Sirius, Remus, and James were taken and Peter was just mentioned in passing. I firmly believe Peter was truly their friend for years, and just a bit weak. I tried to make him a deeply flawed but still sympathetic character, and as he was struggling with his hidden attraction to men, he eventually became involved with Remus--a relationship that was, to a certain extent, Peter's salvation, even though he ended up losing it in the end.

[info]culpaepatria - Sins of the Fathers, a post-war Harry Potter game where I played Remus Lupin, who was involved with Tonks for a while and then became involved with Snape after discovering he hadn't really been a traitor. This one was fun because Remus was the Alpha of the werewolves who had defected from Fenrir Greyback's pack. They had driven Greyback out, and Greyback ended up returning and challenging Lupin, who had to fight for supremacy.

[info]rcsnupin - the Snape/Lupin archive from Ruat Coelum RPG, a post-HBP game which was sadly hosted at GreatestJournal. The game itself is lost, but the Snupin archive remains.

The RPG I was proudest of, Artifice, was also hosted on GreatestJournal, sadly. It was AU Harry Potter and featured a world where Grindelwald had taken over much of Europe, Africa, and India, and had made inroads into other parts of the world. There was a drastically altered world map, Muggles were, at least under Grindelwald, subjugated by the wizards. The only 'canon' characters we had were Orion and Regulus Black and Tom Riddle (who had not yet become Voldemort, as he was Grindelwald's second-in-command). It was all kinds of fun, and I miss it, and now we don't even have the archive. :(

I got my start in online RPG with Walpurgis Night, but that was hosted on GreatestJournal and nothing of that remains except the scenes I saved on my computer in Word format. LOL

And of course I continue in RPG with [info]bau_rpg, which is in the Criminal Minds fandom and is, honestly, the best game I've ever had the privilege of playing in. I truly like every single player in this game and feel close to everyone. The writing is superb on all levels. The relationships are complicated and interesting. I have read every bit of every scene, which hasn't always been the case in games I've played (you know how it is, sometimes the only scenes you really find interesting are your own, and that's NOT the case in BAU RPG). We've just closed a major case (the Reaper/George Foyet) in [info]bau_rpg and are entering some down time with Christmas parties and the like. We have a reading comm at [info]bau_rpg_readers where players and non-players alike can post thoughts, commentary, questions, and discussion. And we're always open to applications for characters like Haley Brooks Hotchner, Sean Hotchner, Ambassador Prentiss, and other secondary characters.

Just wanted to remind everyone who's reccing Snupin Santa fest stories that I'm collecting recs here on LJ and here on IJ. So far, five stories and two artworks have qualified for inclusion in both the Daily Snitch and Snape News newsletters!

Please post rec links in the comments of the posts listed above so I can keep track of recs more easily, and if you'd include the title of the work(s) you're reccing, that would be really helpful as well. Thanks!
